Children's Hospice Fermanagh Appeal

Northern Ireland Hospice Care has recently acquired a new facility in county Fermanagh to provide a children’s hospice service in the Fermanagh and Tyrone area.

We urgently need to raise £350,000 to redevelop this site and building and make it fit for purpose. Horizon West, will offer a comfortable and friendly environment to provide day care and respite care for children with life limiting illnesses and offer support to their families.

Here are just some of the ways you can help:

  • Buy a building block for our new children’s hospice centre in Fermanagh. Blocks cost £10, but you can buy as many as you like!
  • Ask your business, organisation or school to support the appeal.
  • Organise your own fundraising event.
  • Take part in a one the Hospice Fundraising Events (see links to Fundraising Events & Challenge Events pages). Simply mention that you are raising money for the Fermanagh Appeal.
  • Consider leaving a gift to the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice in your will.
  • Volunteer to help us with the appeal or join the local hospice support group.
  • Why not take part in the Enniskillen Rotary 10K road race on Saturday 21st June 2008 in aid of the Building Blocks appeal.
Click Here to register with Fermanagh district council or pick up an entry form from the council or one of their leisure centres. Then ring us on 028 9078 1836 to get your sponsor forms and t-shirt!

Some more information on the project:

Northern Ireland Hospice Care already provides services for children living in the Fermanagh and Tyrone area. Care for life-limited children and their families living in the area is available at home through the community teams. However, a need has now been identified for flexible day care and respite services.

Currently there are over 60 families in the Western Health board area who use the children’s hospice services. If these families wish to use our inpatient facilities they could face a round trip of 180 miles to Horizon House in Belfast; this drive is particularly difficult with a life limited child. The opening of Horizon West will mean families have a shorter distance to travel and are closer to their child and more families will be able to receive inpatient care.

Services at the newly renovated Horizon West will include:

• Flexible Day Care
• Respite facilities for four children and two families at any one time
• Complementary Therapies
• Bereavement Support
• Teenage weekends

To make the property suitable for these services it will need extensive renovation and refurbishment. We estimate this will cost us £350,000 plus another £200,000 per year in running costs. This cost will be in addition to the £1.8 million it currently takes to run our services each year. We are now counting on the public to help us reach our target and help more families of life limited children in Northern Ireland.
