Children's Hospice welcomes goverment cash commitment
The Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice (NICH) welcomes the Minister for Health’s announcement of £200,000 recurrent funding for the development of outreach services.

The money which is available from April 2008 is crucial as demand for services continue to grow for the charity which relies heavily on legacies and donations from the community each year to fund the unique range of services provided to life limited children, young people and their families. Professor Judith Hill, Chief Executive of Northern Ireland Hospice Care Hospice said:
“This announcement is a significant step forward in the government’s acknowledgement for the need to grow and improve services for life-limited children, young people and their families. We are delighted with the cash commitment which will help us further strengthen and build upon the existing services we already provide in the community. We will continue to work with the government and other local partners to grow services for the future so that children, young people and their families can receive the palliative care they deserve.”

In making the announcement today, the Minister for Health, Michael McGimpsey, said that every child or young person and their family need access to the best available care in a choice of settings including home, hospice or hospital.

Professor Hill continued, “The government money is extremely welcome and we are very grateful for the ongoing generous donations from the Northern Ireland public to help us grow services to support the children, young people and families that rely on us 24 hours a day, every day of the year.”
