Daredevils go over the edge for World Hospice Day

The sight of figures scaling the side of the historic Scrabo Tower may have made passers by look twice on Saturday 7th October. But these daredevils including mayor of Ard’s, Councillor Angus Carson, had good reason for taking up the Scrabo Challenge. They all hoped to raise funds for Northern Ireland Hospice Care and mark World Hospice Day.

Katie Setterfield, Regional Fundraiser for Northern Ireland Hospice Care commented, “The response from the public in Northern Ireland has been amazing. Seventy people have gone ‘over the edge’ today, and it has been an extra special way to mark World Hospice Day whilst raising funds to help our services providing specialist respite and end of life care to patients across Northern Ireland.”

World Hospice and Palliative Care Day is a unified day of action to celebrate and support hospice and palliative care around the world. Each year millions of people around the world living with a terminal illness experience unnecessary pain and discomfort, either because they are unaware of or unable to access the care they need.

In Northern Ireland, thanks to the generosity and support of the public and events such as the abseil, Northern Ireland Hospice Care was able to provide support to over 2,500 patients and their families last year.
