Family Support Hospice Social Workers are part of the multi-professional team at Northern Ireland Hospice Care providing care and support for patients and their families. They are trained to recognise the difficulties that patients and their families face when someone is seriously ill. They can provide help and support with the emotional and psychological effects of serious illness and los. They also provide information and support for families who wish to talk to the children about what is happening. Families may have worries about issues such as money, employment, housing or future care. Our social workers can help by contacting community services on their behalf, providing relevant information and by counselling patients and their families. Bereavement Care Hospice care does not end with the death of a loved one. Bereavement care has always been an important element of hospice care. Families are offered counselling by trained staff and volunteers. They can also attend Relative's Evenings which provide an opportunity to return to hospice and to meet others who are also experiencing bereavement. Returning to the hospice can be a helpful part of the grieving process. |
